जिंदगी को हर दार्शनिक अपनी तरह से परिभाषित करते हैं। जितना भी मैंने पढ़ा जाना, मैं इसी नतीजे पर पहुंची कि जीवन को किसी खास परिधि में नहीं बांधा जा सकता। जीवन के लिए हम एक परिभाषा नहीं दे सकते। जीवन बहती धारा है जो उद्गम से लेकर अंत तक हर पल को छूती हुई निकलती है और वहां अपने निशान अंकित करती है। हर एक निशान एक कहानी है। कहते हैं किसी भी व्यक्ति के उंगलियों का निशान किसी दूसरे व्यक्ति से नहीं मिल सकता,उसी तरह हर व्यक्ति की कहानी लगती तो एक जैसी है, लेकिन सब में कुछ ना कुछ अलग खासियत होती है।कहानियां लिखती हूं तो स्वाभाविक है कि मुझे कहानियां पढ़ने का भी शौक है। बहुत सी कहानियों को पढ़ते हुए ऐसा लगता है कि यह मेरे जीवन के पलों को छू रही है,परंतु पूरी कहानी मेरी जीवन की कहानी नहीं हो सकती। उन्हीं कहानियों का ताना बाना है यह पुस्तक

मैने कहानियों में स्थान सच्चे रखे है जिससे कहानियों में और अधिक वास्तविकता नज़र आए।बाकी तो आप सभी ये अच्छी तरह से समझते हैं कि कोई भी कहानी सौ प्रतिशत सच नहीं होती और ना ही सौ प्रतिशत झूठी या काल्पनिक होती है।कहानी के सृजन में सच के साथ ही कल्पना के भी कुछ तंतु होते हैं ।अलग-अलग समय पर अलग-अलग मानसिकता के साथ कहानियों का सृजन हुआ है।
कहानी-संग्रह की इस यात्रा में सबसे पहले मैं अपनी धर्मं – पत्नी श्रीमति कुमकुम जौहरी के निरन्तर सहयोग के प्रति अनुगृहित हूँ जिन्होंने परिवार के सभी उत्तरदायित्वों का निर्वहन करते हुए न केवल इस कहानी-संग्रह के सृजन मे अभूतपूर्व योगदान दिया बल्कि पहले के दोनों संग्रहों में भी इनका उतना ही योगदान एवं सहयोग रहा है।उनके सहयोग के बिना मेरे सृजन शायद आप तक पहुंच ही नहीं पाते।
